Description
Mustard seeds are the small round seeds of the mustard plants. These are usually about 1 to 2 millimetres in diameter and may be colored from yellowish white to black. Grinding and mixing the seeds with water, vinegar or other liquids creates the yellow condiment known as yellow mustard. They are primarily used as seasoning ingredient in Indian cuisine. Mustard seeds contain calcium, dietary fiber, iron, manganese, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, protein, zinc, and selenium—a trace mineral that is an antioxidant that may offer protection against asthma, heart attacks, and some cancers. Mustard seeds are known to speed up metabolism, decreases symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, lower high blood pressure, soothe sore throats, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
